Tuesday Classical, October 2026 Edition
Tuesday night chess in Chesterfield: one USCF-rated classical game a week. The first tournament series ever organized in the mainland United States by a Puerto Rican chess club. The Utuado Chess Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit from the mountains of Puerto Rico, brings its competitive tradition to St. Louis.
Format
- One rated game per week, every Tuesday at 6:00 PM Central.
- October 2026 edition: 4 rounds (October 6, 13, 20, 27). This is a monthly series; each edition has as many rounds as the month has Tuesdays.
- Time control G/60;+30 (60 minutes per player, 30 second increment from move one).
- US Chess Regular rated, Swiss pairings.
Entry fee: pay only for the nights you play
- $10 per round. Select your Tuesdays at registration and the price calculates automatically.
- $30 maximum per edition. Choose three or more rounds and the rest of the month is free, so four rated games in October cost $30, which is $6 a game.
- Players rated 2100 or above (USCF or FIDE) play free. Applied automatically once your rating is verified.
There is no registration deadline. Join at any point in the month and play the remaining rounds. Rounds played before you join are recorded as half-point byes, so late entrants stay in contention.
Sections
- Under 1800 (1500 to 1799) and 1800 and above.
- Your section is set by the higher of your verified USCF regular and FIDE standard ratings. No playing up, no playing down.
- Players with no USCF rating may enter with a FIDE standard rating of 1500 or above. Players unrated in both federations are not eligible.
- If fewer than six players enter a section, the sections merge into a single Open for that edition and everyone affected is notified before pairings.
Eligibility
- Rated 1500 or higher (USCF or FIDE), verified at registration.
- Current USCF membership required through October 27. If yours expires sooner, or you do not have one, you can add it during registration and we will process it for you. FIDE membership is not required.
Byes and absences
Any Tuesday you do not select is recorded as a half-point bye. You can also request one later, up to 15 minutes before the round starts, through your check-in link, by email, or by phone. There is no limit on byes and no player is removed for missing a night.
Once pairings are posted, byes close. A player who is paired and does not appear forfeits the game and the opponent who showed up receives the full point.
Trophies
First place in each section, donated by Chess Cardinals Club, awarded on the first Tuesday of the following month in a short ceremony before the round. A player must have played at least three actual games in the edition to qualify; half-point byes do not count toward the three. Ties are broken using the standard tiebreak system used in all Utuado Chess Club events. There is no cash prize in this series.
Schedule on the night
- 5:30 PM entries close for that night’s round.
- 6:00 PM round begins.
- 45 minutes forfeit time.
